vinos de yecla

Although the Yecla do began operating in 1975, there is news of the production of the Yecla wines from the time of the Phoenicians and, later, the Romans. In the nineteenth century production experienced a great increase due to the presence in this region of French merchants.

The wine production area of Yecla covers exclusively the municipal term of this city, located to the north of the altiplano region, in the northeast of the province of Murcia. Today we can say that, due to the great wine tradition of the region and the magnificent weather conditions, we are facing one of the most interesting and most popular denominations in Spain, in fact about 95% of the production is exported from the country.

In the market we find a wide range of wines from Yecla, with red wine being the most produced. The Monastrell grape is the true protagonist of the Yecla wine, although other varieties such as Syrah, Merlot and Petit Verdot are also planted, which have been perfectly adapted to the conditions of the area. The red wines of the denomination of origin Yecla are characterized by being medium-high layer, intense and complex aromatically speaking, with balsamic, spicy memories and notes of red fruits. In the mouth they are fleshy, warm, tannic and soft, very balanced and of great extract, characteristic of the Monastrell grape.

For the Yecla blanco wine, Macabeo, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Verdejo and Airen are used, usually on coupages that give rise to aromatic wines, fresh and with memories of fruits and flowers, light, persistent and of good acidity.

The Yecla rosé wine is made from Monastrell grapes without skins. They are wines with good aromatic intensity to red fruits, of a pink, raspberry and cherry color with purple nuances, they are fresh, tasty and balanced in the mouth.

Yecla is located in a transition zone between the plateau and the Mediterranean, in an altiplano that is characterized by its high altitude, between 535 and 800 meters. The soils are, in general, limestone, with a sandy surface and poor in organic matter but with adequate permeability. The climate is Mediterranean-continental, with long, cold winters and very hot summers. The temperature is ideal, with a great thermal oscillation of 20 ºC, which allows an optimum ripening of the grapes for the production of high quality Yecla wines.
